This area was designed as the first point of interaction in the pit before entering the initial arena. It needed to capture an unsettling cosmic vibe, something that felt weird and a little off to set the tone for the level.
The gameplay mechanic behind this design was to align the gate with the Eye at the temple. Once aligned, it would trigger a light-up cue for a shield toss, which then opened a large portal.
